Natalie was the IMDB's top star of 2011, for being the actor that received the most search queries on their site. They now have a list of the top stars, with the same criteria, from the past decade. And...
1. Johnny Depp 2. Brad Pitt 3. Angelina Jolie 4. Tom Cruise 5. Natalie Portman 6. Christian Bale 7. Scarlett Johansson 8. Jennifer Aniston 9. Keira Knightley 10. Emma Watson
Rachel and I have nailed down 95% of the nominations, but there are still a few head scratchers and gaps in our memory. I thought I'd make this update to get some input from you guys, to make sure we don't overlook something obvious.
The biggest category problem is Best TV/Internet Appearance. There was Ellen and the Lend A Hand FINCA ad and...err...anything else? I might have to drop the category this year if I don't get some suggestions.
The Rumoured Projects category has Gucci, Avengers, Jupiter Ascending, Adaline and possibly Cloud Atlas (although we had it last year as well)...are we forgetting anything?
Finally, I'm curious to hear what you guys would suggest for best and worst Natalie news of 2011. We've probably got one spot open for each category, so let's hear it!
The new poll, like the last, is about Natalie's red carpet appearance. The old poll was about her Golden Globe look and the new poll is about Sunday's SAG appearance.
On a similar note, after the jump we have the full results of the Golden Globes appearance. More than half of you thought it was less than perfection, so it will be interesting to see how SAG compares.
A week ago there were reports that the junket for The Phantom Menace 3D release was going to be quite different from the norm. Instead of journalists asking questions, the questions would be asked by kids.
If that didn't make their target audience strategy clear enough, check out this new trailer. On the one hand, it's the worst trailer I've ever seen. On the other hand, at least it's honest.
Woah, it's February already. Guess you guys might want this then, the February 2012 release of our official calendar. This month is thanks to our own Rachel.
In 2010 Natalie didn't even crack the Askmen 99 Most Desirable list, but bounced back with the 17th spot in 2011. Based on that, I predicted, and encouraged you all to "bank on it", that Black Swan would push Natalie to a top 12 finish in 2012.
Some have noticed that Natalie is now wearing a double ring, not the single engagement ring that she wore previously. I'm clueless about these things so I have no idea if this means that Natalie and Ben might have already married, or if there is some new innocuous reason...like engagement rings when you add water?
On the left is the engagement ring and on the right the new ring.
Natnat found a new photo, of Natalie with Zoe Saldana (Avatar, The Professional 2 Colombiana, Star Trek...) from the green room at last night's SAG awards. It's news worthy on it's own because Natalie and Zoe both contributed PSA's for FINCA's 'Lend a Hand' initiative. Nice to see them together, don't you agree?
For those who weren't able to watch the show, below we have Natalie presenting Best Actor at last night's Screen Actor's Guild Awards. It's by the numbers stuff but, man, she looks good.
Natalie presenting at the Screen Actors Guild Awards
Natalie is presenting at the Screen Actors Guild Award tonight, so don't forget to tune in if you aren't already! She skipped the red carpet this evening (which is a shame, because she looks quite lovely), but posed for photos in the press room. New photos are forthcoming, so keep checking back at the gallery for more!
Just a little reminder that Natalie will be presenting at this evening's Screen Actor's Guild Awards. In all likelihood, she will be calling George Clooney's name again.
In the meantime, check out last year's appearance where Natalie (and Aleph) won Best Actress for Black Swan.
Natalie's stylist, Kate Young, has some incredible nice things to say about Natalie in this new interview. When asked what the best thing about styling Natalie was, she responded...
My favorite look she’s worn was Givenchy Couture at Cannes. Why do I love dressing her? She is someone I really respect and admire and like. She’s a good friend and a good person. She is someone I know as a regular person. I have two assistants during this time of year and we were all watching the Golden Globes together and they know her. We spend a lot of time with her and every time the camera panned to her during the show we were like “WOW!” She is someone we know who is a normal, good, awesome person and then you see her in hair and makeup with jewelry and a dress and we somehow forget, which seems impossible, that she is just about the most beautiful person on the planet right now. So that is awesome to see her sometimes and be removed from it and be like "Holy sh*t, she’s beautiful." I should show you my text messages. I texted her during the Globes saying, “Holy sh*t, you’re gorgeous. We are dying.”
As a bonus, here is another interview with Kate in which she reveals she styled Natalie for a Dior shoot last week. Something to look forward to later in the year.
A couple meatier (probably a poor choice of words for a Natalie Portman site) than usual tidbits for you guys today.
- The 3D converted version of The Phantom Menace blasts back into cinemas in just a couple weeks. French site Excessif have seen the film and they don't seem very impressed. Here's Carlotto's translation:
[Talking about Titanic’s successful conversion] The rebirth is all the more tremendous when you then watch this debased version of Star Wars Episode I – The Phantom Menace which quickly annihilates our last hopes. […] The main offending thing to note is the 3D. It hardly creates any relief, the process becoming what cinephile fear the most: a mere trick. Furthermore the digital effects were universally and with good reason praised in 1999. Too bad this 3D version disturbs the alchemy between the live action shots and the CG shots by creating a clear line between the two worlds. Instead of abolishing the real world boundaries, the 3D conversion reinforces the distinction between actors in the flesh and CG elements.
- Finally, NY Mag looks at how Dior are doing without Galliano. Apparently pretty damn well. For now at least. In the article we hear what Natalie and other celebs bring to the brand.
Charlize Theron offers a "glamorous ultra-femininity", Natalie Portman a "more consensual femininity", Marion Cotillard brings "classy, French sophistication" and the American Mila Kunis a touch of youth.
