| Nat's singing and dancing debut | ![]() |

Morning
Right, the big surprise is a pre-Leon Nat dancing and singing in several music videos for the World Patrol Kids.
I thought these things were brilliant. The cheap production, the songs, the dances...its fall on the floor funny. And Nat? Well she's adorable.
When she mentioned, on the GS commentary, that her parents like to show boyfriends and friends embarassing old footage of her...this was probably one of the things she was talking about.
A big thanks to Sak who bought the tape and spent a week editing and encoding and uploading.
Here we go...

I thought it would be a good idea to see what you think of the WPC clips. Soooo...here's a new poll.
The editorial has been updated with your feedback. We might add another batch if there are some thoughts that cover new ground. As always, thanks to everyone who contributed. And to those who didn't...thanks for nothing!
;-)
Rounding things off, here are the results of the last poll.
What is closest to matching your thoughts on the Date Me Natalie thing?

Funny 15.99% (150 votes)
Inappropriate 13.86% (130 votes)

The San Diego comic con is coming up and Natalie will make her first ever convention appearance. She'll be there for V for Vendetta, which is a part of the Warner Brothers presentation. Friday July 15, 11am...GO!
V For Vendetta? Based on the groundbreaking graphic novel, V for Vendetta stars Hugo Weaving and Natalie Portman, is directed by John McTeigue, and produced by Joel Silver with Larry and Andy Wachowski from their screenplay. Appearing in person at this event will be Natalie Portman, Joel Silver, and original graphic novel co-creator David Lloyd. Thanks to the TON of people who sent me the link.
I've also put up a temporary gallery (Melody is on holiday) for the Live 8 concert. It has a bunch of new pics so ch-ch-ch-check it out. Thanks to Stephen and Reed.

Added more HQ pics
I'll be back later.

Morning
A bunch of new pics of Natalie with Liron, her blackberry and a cigarette have surfaced. At the moment the pics are small and watermarked but hopefully we can eventually find proper versions. I set up a temp gallery over here. Thanks to m5lover.
E! have been doing a celebrity oops list and Natalie's wailing wall kiss made it to number 69. Despite the fact it wasn't her fault...or even an oops. Oops. Thanks to Orionsaint.
If you head over here you can vote for Natalie in the Teen Choice Awards. She's up for several things, just make sure you click on wave 1 and wave 2. Thanks to Amy.

The new gallery and Live 8 appearance seem to indicate that Natalie is trying to grow a mohawk. Personally I think it already looks pretty kickass and hope she goes through with it. But I wonder what you all think.

Lets talk.
Sit here on my couch...I said couch, not lap.
Ok.
Our image gallery has the ability for people to leave comments. We use it and encourage it in the comic gallery but Melody doesn't like them in the other galleries and so we don't use it. But Melody is away and since we got those new pics, I set up a temp gallery and left the comments permission on.
Today I got a few emails from people who were very disappointed by some of the things said in relation to those smoking pics. After checking them out I sorta have to agree.
Yes, Nat smokes (although its a relatively healthy brand...unless she's changed). We covered it in an editorial when the news first broke, a little over a year ago.
Yes, smoking is a crappy habit.
Yes, she used to be very much against it (but that doesn't make her a hypocrite. lazy journalism is to blame for "she doesn't smoke" to still be appearing in articles.)
But as disgusting a habit as smoking is, some of those comments were even more so.
Why is this important? Because we've been planning to bring a comment feature to the news. Much like a blog, we've been working on a way for you all to be able to give feedback and discuss things that we post about. But now...now I'm not sure. Obviously any small thought about an open policy where anyone can give comments is out of the question. But should we scrap the idea entirely?
I certainly don't think people should always be sucking up to Natalie and think the sun shines out of her ass but there's a point where criticism goes a bit too far.
So I want to hear from you guys. Should we go ahead with these plans and see what happens? How do you think it should work?
Perhaps I can set up a poll about it later in the week...

Hi
Thanks for the feedback regarding yesterdays update. As always, there wasn't anything even close to a consensus. Some people think its a great idea, others think it's doomed to failure and everyone has a different idea of how they think it should work.
It's clear that in order for this to be a valuable addition to the site we're going to have to try and keep the standards high. And that will mean either restricting messages or being careful about the logins we hand out.
And if you don't want to see any comments, don't worry, they won't be appearing on the front page. So if you're against it, just pretend the feature doesn't exist.
Anyway, I thought a poll would be interesting so...
The comments poll
And here are the results of the mohawk poll...
What do you feel about the idea of Nat growing a mohawk?
I think its exciting 38.2% (366 votes)
I think it just gets worse and worse 35.49% (340 votes)
I don't mind, its just hair 25.37% (243 votes)Wow, pretty even split. Those who aren't digging the hair, fear not, there's an image gallery with a zillion pics of her with plenty of hair. And it'll be back...eventually.
Not much in the way of news again today but Cal was able to find this cute pic of Nat and Sanjiro.

Hiya
Sarah sent in a link to this funny new poll conducted in the UK.
The poll, commissioned by dessert giants Muller, asked 1,000 Britons which American stars they would most like to spend a steamy night with. Nat came 9th, which seems pretty good. But Renee Zellweger at #7...
Stephanie sent a heads up that a backstage interview with Nat at Live 8 is on rotation on XM satellite radio. Maybe you'll get lucky and hear it...
I coulda sworn I posted about this awhile back but since I keep getting emails about it, here we go (again?). Click here and scroll down to the 3rd (and very naughty sounding) headline.
Salome sent me his interesting theory, which explains why nat might be growing a mohawk.
Just to tell you that I have a slight idea about why Natalie is growing a mohawk.
From what I could see in other films, mohawk is the usual trick for actors with short hair, because it's the most convenient way to attach a wig onto the skull with a final effect that will look as natural as possible. (see attached picture of Orlando Babe during Lord of the Rings shooting, all set for blond wig work - picture by Viggo Mortensen)
Considering the fact that Goya's Ghosts shooting will take place soon, and that Natalie's hair won't possibly be long enough to fit the period's length, it seems highly probable that the mohwak choice comes from the make-up and hair department, rather than from her own sense of style.
And finally, some fanart.
Michael sent in this nice drawing.
And Amidaala sent in a Closer painting.
Tomorrow would normally be update the battle pic poll day but Kris is gonna be at the GP, so it'll have to wait till monday.

That's has nothing to do with Nat and everything to do with my well being.
I've got a Nokia 6600 and I've got bluetooth on my PC. Unfortunately I've had major problems trying to get my phone properly connected to the PC. Apparently there's some sort of issue with XP Service Pack 2 and bluetooth devices. I've tried all the suggested fixes I've been able to find but I'm still having problems.

Hopefully we'll have more news soon.
And here's the new poll.
Speaking of V, don't forget that Nat will be attending the San Diego comic con on friday and I'd be surprised if they don't show some footage or a teaser trailer.
News broke today about Natalie's manager jumping ship and joining a new company. Will Nat join her? Does anyone care?
"Talent manager Aleen Keshishian is exiting the Firm to become a partner in Brillstein-Grey Management, the company confirmed Monday. Keshishian is known for spotting and nurturing such budding stars as Natalie Portman, who has been a client of Keshishian's since she was 12."
Thanks to JC for the link.
Mart has added a couple recent articles to the site.

And finally, some fanart.

Hiya
Thought I better clear out some of the odds and ends before the comic con info hits.
Speaking of which, if you decided to go I sure hope you got there early.
It just goes to show you can't show up too early for anything.
I got to Comic-Con more than an hour before the 11 a.m. panel discussion where Natalie Portman -- Queen Amidala of Star WarsM fame -- is scheduled to appear and found more than 1,000 people already lined up outside the San Diego Convention Center waiting to get into the 6,500-seat Hall H.
"These are Star Wars fans," said one of my fellow standees. "They'll camp out." Ouch. Thanks to Lilly for the link.
JC found some news about Nat attending a recent concert.
The Tommy Hilfiger at Jones Beach Theater was only about half full Tuesday night for the traveling Sugar Water Festival, but that half a crowd roared like a full house for singers Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Queen Latifah and Floetry.
The latter, billed as the evening's special guests, only got about 20 minutes of stage time but made the best of it by singing their hits and some covers by the likes of Mary J. Blige. The headliners then all came out together to welcome the crowd ? which included actress Natalie Portman. Source.
Trent is an architect and he snuck some Nat into a CG rendering of a client's apartment. Pretty clever.
Fanart is a bit scarce at the moment but...
Charlotte sent in a wallpaper and Joe sent in some Mars Attacks fanart.
Ok, hopefully I'll be back a little later with comic con news.

Morning all
I've got a ton of comic con stuff so let's just hop to it.
AICN's Quint has a great little report of the panel up, which includes several pics of Nat looking great.
ComingSoon have a different pic of Nat plus an audio interview with Nat and co. Click here to check it out.
IGN has another trailer description.
Wireimage and ISIFA have pics of Nat at the event.
And finally, a Nat's fans perspective from Jon.
there were a ton of people, but the room was big enough to acommodate everyone. i wasn't seated too close but i was able to see her fine. they had those big screens too.
it started off really funny when the first guy up for Q&A asked her to do something completely original ala Garden State, which she did and was really cute. other than what was mentioned in that variety report, there was one not so cool incident when a fan came up to ask her a question but didn't really ask her one, instead mentioning a condition that he had which fans at comic-con never appreciate. i guess they figure that they only have limited time and they really don't like it when a fan takes more than 20 seconds to talk about themselves rather than ask a question. but natalie was really nice to the guy and thanked him. i'd say that was probably the only unpleasantness of the whole day. it also got a bit funny when most of the questions were directed at Natalie. Probably the first 8 or so questions were all to her which the audience found really funny. i also liked it when someone asked her about shaving her head and then after answering his questions, she asked the guy if he would do it (he had pretty long hair). that was kinda funny. one of the funniest questions was when a guy asked her about how she was as an actor starting from back in the day when she was in the might ducks! even she had to ask him to repeat it and when he asked her again, she sort of laughed and pretty much told him that she wasn't in that.
naturally the audience let the guy have it...
all in all, it was an amazing experience. it was well worth the drive, the wait and the money to see her. i'm always impressed when i see her interviews on letterman or other shows or read articles on her... but to listen to her talk in person... you really get this sense that she's this geniune person. she's not fake. her intelligence is something that you notice right away. she's very nice to people and very patient. she listened to every question and really tried to give a good response.
i really hope that she had a good experience because that could mean more appearances in fan conventions, so that fans from other parts of the world will also have the chance to see her in person.
It sounds like they're still planning to release the film in November but I guess there will be an official annoucement soon enough. Hopefully next week will see the trailer going online.
Happy days!

Carrying on with the comic con coverage...
Melody has added a new gallery for the comic con.
Several people mailed me about this great little nat interview with IGN.
Russianguns sent me a clip he managed to sneak of the presentation. It has the infamous Mighty Ducks question. Click here to download.
I think now would be a good time wrap up the last poll...
With the content of V for Vendetta being very similar to the London bombings, do you think V's release should be delayed?
No, its just a movie. 55.73% (452 votes)
No, its more relevant now than ever. 29.59% (240 votes)
Yes, this is not the right time for such a film. 7.15% (58 votes)
Yes, but just in England. 7.03% (57 votes)
...and to put up a new poll.

Hi again
We'll have to wait on the pic battle update because Kris has been busy with something else. No, not that you perv! He's been working on the comment feature and tonight we're ready to rock and roll.
I guess this should be called a "beta" because we have to see it in action to really see what works and what doesn't.
After every update you can click on the comment button and now add your two cents. But beware, we have to approve a comment before it will show up. I'm sorry but it just has to be this way. It certainly does not mean you can't say anything negative. Look at the editorials as an example, we have no problem with criticism directed towards us or Natalie as long as it doesn't cross the line.
People who continually submit crap will be banned.
Also, right now it's just Kris and me who can approve comments so it may take a few hours for your comment to show up. Hopefully we can add some moderators at a later stage.
Ok, I think that's it. I hope you guys enjoy it (and that it actually works) and if you were one of the people who didn't want this feature added, just pretend that "comment" button doesn't exist.
Oh, and a big thanks to Kris for the hard work.

Kicking off with a couple site things. So far the comments system seems to be working very well and there are only a handful of comments that haven't made it through so thanks for that. It's also nice to see a couple of the "stars" from the comic con question session making appearances.
The other news is that Matt had a major problem with his PC, which is why the new strip is late. Sorry about that.
Right, onto the news...
Melody has added a bunch of lovely Hi Res pics to the comic con gallery. Thanks to Pasha.
Speaking of the con, this site has some clips from the panel and covers a few questions that we missed. Thanks to Wilson.
Fans of the V novel might be a bit depressed to see this script review. If you haven't read the comic I would suggest not clicking. To summarize, the guy thought some elements were handled perfectly and a few additions made could be for the better. But he also felt there were some fundamental mistakes, most notably in making things simpler...more black and white. But the draft is from 2004 so hopefully...yeah...
Last bit of news today is from Fabian who has a clip from Howard Stern's show. Its pretty funny and is about a Nat fan...I gotta say, if that creeped Stern out he should see some of the things we receive. You can download the audio clip here.
Time for some fanart.
Gunnar sent in a lovely wallpaper of Nat and the Omega nebula...hard to know what's more beautiful. Ok, I'm exaggerating a bit.
NosferatuLestat sent in a nice mosiac but you'll need to minimize to see it properly.
And lastly, a couple comic con wallpapers from Barry. Click here and here.

Very good movie. Natalie wasn't in it but if you cut out a picture of her and glue it to your TV set...

Yes, it is true. The Vendetta trailer debuted at Comic Con and now, those who were not there will see it online shortly. In fact, tomorrow. In High Definition and with 5.1 surround sound at its largest size. Damn I love the march of technology. While the Matrix trailers we encoded in 2003 looked great, we could not encode true HD. WHY?!
The V for Vendetta site has updated again today.
The trailer will launch at the official site today, July 22nd, at 6PM EST.
Encoded in QuickTime 7 (and QuickTime 6, for those not yet upgraded), it is being released at its largest in high definition (HD), far better than DVD resolution, with 5.1 surround sound.
Today.
6pm EST.
that's about an hour and a half from... NOW. which is 11pm british time! or 23:00. i don't know. if you live in paris, it would be 12 midnight. or 00:00 or something. I don't know. You people have crazy time. If I were in Honolulu then it would be 1:00pm. Ah. Time Zones.

It's improved my anticipation. 20.87% (82 votes)

My hand is still recovering from all the clicking last night. The response to the trailer seems to be more positive than negative and Dave Polands new blog entry is an example of that.
On the subject of V, Nat made a surprise visit on TRL to premiere the trailer. I'm sorry that we weren't able to give you all a decent warning. Our Natalie tracking device must be faulty. Anyway, we'll have a gallery up for the appearance soon but here are a few select pics to tide you over. Thanks to Oresia.
"I've got one hand in my pocket..."
It's like attack of the clones. Run Nat Run!
The best of the lot
That string is dying to be pulled
Profile shots are Nat's friend
Those are some killer heels
"Look at me! I'm a doofus."
A couple ladies made some interesting points which I thought I'd share. Our own Melody suggested that Nat is doing V promo work now because she'll be filming Goya soon and might not be able to get away from that in October.
The second point is from Jen and I've been meaning to post it for weeks. We've heard the "to look cool" theory and we've heard the "good for wigs" theory but this sounds the most likely to me.
First, I have a comment on Natalie's hair. For starters I think she looks great. A few years ago I lost all my hair to a really bad perm. I immediately found a stylist that knew what she was doing. She also cut my hair to look like I was growing a mohawk. The stylist continued to cut my hair on the sides and back until the top grew out more. And the more the top grew out the less that she started to cut from the sides and back until I ended with something like a "bob". The reason was that if you don't do this as it grows out you end up looking like a really bad porcupine! It also gives stylist more options sooner. I am assuming that must be what she is doing but I think she looks awesome as always.
Some more V talk as CBR interviews Natalie.
On a final V note, we'll be putting up caps from trailer as soon as possible. Thanks to everyone who has sent in but we've got it covered.
Melody has added several great but small (like Nat) pics from her Ecuador visit. They come from this interview. If someone can translate that would be great. Thanks to Laura.
Paul has sent in two scans of Natalie talking about Closer. But the interview is recent and the answers are original...for a change. Click here and here.
And to bring this sucker to an end, a bit of fanart.
Arden sent in the first V trailer wallpaper.
Topher sent in his own Nat drawing.
And finally, zturnip sent in a cool wallpaper. Colour and without.
Whew, thats about it.

Just a short update today. German and Stephanie sent in translations of that interview in Equador and Mart added it to the articles section. In it she admits that Liron is her boyfriend...but we already knew that anyway.
You can read it here.
And Melody has added trailer caps to the V gallery.
Night.

Hiya
Been a busy day so I'll have to do a proper catchup tomorrow.
But here are a couple things.
Melody has updated the TRL gallery with Natalie's latest appearance. Hi Res pics should be added to it soon so just keep checking it.
I know a lot of you would like us to put up a clip of her appearance but I think it caught most people off guard and I'm not too sure if someone is going to be able to send in an encoded copy. Commeth the hour, commeth the (wo)man?
And we've replaced the version of the Equador interview with German's much better version. And to clarify...BOYFRIEND NOT FIANCE!
We probably lost half the male fanbase with that little mistake.
R.I.P

Hey all
Sorry about the delay but we finally have the new comic done. If you want to give feedback its probably better to use the comment feature on the actual comic page.
And once again, we can't please everyone. I wish we could but it's just never going to happen. Some people like cute. Some people like naughty. Some people want Nat in every strip. Others like different characters like Noel. Some want subtle humour. Some want broad gags. Some even liked the joke strip the most.
So, we're really trying to cover as many bases as possible but first and foremost we have to do what we like.
BOOM!
I'll be back later with more.

Ello
As promised, its once again time to do some catching up.
Ekyillia found an article about Nat talking to some important British officials about microfinance. This was last month when she was still in London. In the article are two new pics.
Ekyillia also sent me a new but small pic of Nat in Equador. Ole!
And she also sent in some caps from the World Patrol Kids video, which might be of interest to people who couldn't view the clips.
Cute 1 Cute 2
Cute 3 Cute 4
Cute 5 Cute 6
Cute 7 Cute 8
Cute 9 Cute 10
Al sent in a scan from the Aussie mag, Who. It features the West Village pics.
And finally, fanart.
Kevin sent in a wallpaper that's certainly different.
Shassy sent in wallpaper with a nature vibe.
Lastly, a couple V wallpapers. From Isabella and a VERY NAUGHTY (close your eyes kids!) wallpaper from Joe.
Tsk tsk.

Heya
Been a bit busy the last couple days but thankfully (for me that is) there hasn't been much news.
Here's another little update to tide you over till tomorrow when I should be able to fully catch up.
Melody has updated a couple galleries.
The TRL gallery has been updated.
As has the Before fame gallery.
Niko found a report of Nat getting kicked out of a nightclub for the shocking act of requesting a song. I'm sorry but unless the song you're requesting is by Ricky Martin, that's just wrong.
Hollywood beauty NATALIE PORTMAN was thrown out of a London nightclub after requesting a MYLO song, according to the Scots DJ himself.
The mixmaster - real name MYLES McINNES - is one of Britain's most popular DJs thanks to the huge popularity of his track DROP THE PRESSURE in clubs, but admits his music may be becoming too mainstream for one nightspot.
Mylo says, "I heard that Natalie Portman asked for one of my tracks in a club in west London somewhere a couple of weeks ago and she got thrown out by security for it. Wicked!"
Finally, here are the results of the last poll.
How would you rank the V trailer?
5 - Spectacular 36.93% (284 votes)
4 - Damn good 25.75% (198 votes)
3 - Interesting 19.25% (148 votes)
Haven't seen it yet 13.65% (105 votes)
2 - A bit of a letdown 2.47% (19 votes)
1 - Awful 1.04% (8 votes)
Wow, that's a lot of love. Let's hope the film delivers.
It's taken so long to put up a new one cos I can't think of anything. If you have any poll ideas, please send me a line or leave a message under "comments".
So, here's the best I can come up with tonight...
Ciao for now.
