Jackie Photography Tidbits

Christmas is approaching, and a certain hiatus of news with it. Until the awards events of January begin, Jackie will expand in more US cinemas this holidays. One of the highlights of the movie, apart from Natalie’s performance and the Mica Levi’s soundtrack, is the cinematography by Stephane Fontaine. Awards Daily has an interesting interview with him, in which he describes the difficulties during the shooting in Washington D.C. and the Paris studios.

Also, we have a new “for your consideration” poster, and a couple of behind-the-scenes photos:

Golden Globe Hat-trick?

We are less than three weeks away from the 74th Golden Globes and with Natalie claiming a best actress nomination for Jackie, I thought it would be fun to take a look at Natalie’s past Golden Globes experiences.

But first, let’s look at her chances this year. Natalie is in the drama category, which means that some of her biggest awards season rivals (like Emma Stone) are not a threat for the Globes. To this end, a Golden Globe win is more likely than winning a second Best Actress Academy Award.

The Vegas odds seem to back that up. OG.lv has Natalie as the favourite with odds of 7/2 while Variety reports on odds that also have Natalie the favourite with odds of 8/5.

If Natalie wins it will be her third Golden Globes win and take her into a third-place tie for most Actress wins. Meryl Streep is way out front with seven and Shirley Maclaine has four.

In 2000 Natalie was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for Anywhere But Here. She lost.
In 2005 she was a Best Supporting Actress winner for Closer.
In 2011 she won Best Actress – Drama for Black Swan.

Hopefully, on January 8th, 2017 we’ll see on stage to collect her third win.

Jackie Tidbits

Taking advantage of this news break in Natland these last two days, we are going to collect some tidbits about the Pablo Larrain´s film.

-First of all, Natalie continues to receive several awards from various critics associations: Washington, Dallas, Chicago, Las Vegas, Phoenix Circle and Kansas are the associations that have given recognition to the work of Natalie in the movie so far.

Fox 2 Channel has another of the many interviews that Natalie has given on the occasion of the premiere of Jackie, this time for Kevin’s Reel World:

Rolling Stone has an interesting interview with Pablo Larrain on how faced the challenge of directing two very different biopics such as Jackie and Neruda.

-Noah Oppenheim, screenwriter of the film, talks in Variety on the Limits of Dramatic License in ‘Jackie’.

-Finally, a curious note: Reese Witherspoon has published in her twitter account a message praising Natalie’s performance and encouraging the audience to see the film.

Back to August

Before Jackie’s intense promotional campaign began in September, Natalie did the same with her directorial debut four months ago. On August 19, she attended a special screening of A Tale of Love and Darkness at Sunshine Cinema in New York, and finally here we have the complete video of the later Q&A, with a great image quality and perfectly edited. Enjoy:

Huading Global Film Awards

Natalie attended the Huading Global Film Awards in LA tonight. This event dishes out honors to talent from all fields of entertainment, from stage theater to film, pop music to TV, and even traditional Chinese opera. The Huading Awards were founded in 2007; the nominees are selected by committee and the winners are chosen by popular vote over the award show’s website and other Chinese internet portals. Along with Natalie, other of the winners of this year are Bryce Dallas Howard, Hilary Swank, Mel Gibson and Sylvester Stallone. Zimbio and Daily Mail have a lot of photos from the event. These are just a few of them:

Natalie has been nominated in the category of best female actor in a leading role for “Jackie” at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, alongside Amy Adams, Emily Blunt, Emma Stone and Meryl Streep. It’s difficult, but if Natalie wins here, she would be the first actress to win twice in this category in the entire history of the SAG awards (They started in 1995); it would be amazing…

Congratulations to #JackieFilm’s Natalie Portman on her #SagAwards nomination for Best Actress!

This is Natalie’s reaction to the nomination:

I am very grateful for the recognition of my peers with this morning’s SAG nomination. I loved making Jackie so much, in large part due to the incredible actors our great director Pablo Larrain assembled. Greta Gerwig, Peter Sarsgaard, Billy Crudup, John Hurt, John Carroll Lynch, Richard Grant, just to name a few, brought such inventiveness and honesty to every moment. Pablo gave us so much freedom and inspiration to play. And that combination allowed us to show Jackie through the many different relationships she had, in many different lights.

The awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, January 29.

Golden Globe Nomination

More good news: Natalie has been nominated for Best Actress in the drama category at the Golden Globes. Unfortunately, it’s the only nomination that the film has achieved, but presumably the movie will have more options in other categories in future guild & Oscars nominations.

The ceremony will be held on January 8, and will be hosted by Jimmy Fallon.

Los Angeles Times has a brief statement, in which she expressed her gratitude:

“I’m so honored to be recognized by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association,” she said. “I had such a beautiful experience making this film with the most wonderful cast and crew, and particularly with our great director, Pablo Larrain, that it feels like icing on the cake to be nominated.”
