Author Jeff Vandermeer, writer of Annihilation, the novel on which Alex Garland’s 2018 film starring Natalie Portman was based, announced yesterday on his facebook page that she, along with Sophie Mas, is developing a film adaptation of his short story Constellations, through their production company, MountainA. He mentions in his post that he is “psyched at the prospect of her starring in it”.

Constellations was published in the MIT Technology Review this year and will be featured in an upcoming short story collection from publishing company Farrar, Straus and Giroux (FSG). The story centers on a group of people whose spaceship crashes on a remote planet.

This isn’t the only project that VanderMeer has in the works. It was also just announced that FSG will be publishing a new book series from the author called The Strange Architect. The first novel, How to Be Free, will be released in 2029, with three sequels expected in subsequent years.

Hopefully, we’ll have more details about this project in the coming months…
