Finally! Seven months after premiering at the Sundance Film Festival, Cathy Yan’s The Gallerist has secured theatrical distribution, at least in the U.S. The movie has been acquired by Roadside Attractions and Vertical, and will open in American theaters on Dec. 4.

“The Gallerist” is a dark comedic thriller in which Natalie portrays an artist who is trying to make a name for herself at Art Basel in Miami and ends up trying to cover up a fatal accident by selling the dead body as a work of art. Sterling K. Brown, Zach Galifianakis, Da’Vine Joy Randolph and Catherine Zeta-Jones round out the cast.

According to the press note, “Cathy Yan’s wildly original film was a winner for us at Sundance,” Roadside Attractions Co-Presidents Howard Cohen and Eric d’Arbeloff and Vertical CEO and Partner Peter Jarowey said. “She assembled a phenomenal ensemble cast led by Natalie Portman’s standout performance as a woman at the intersection of art and crime, revealing a dazzling comic edge along the way. It’s as fun as it is terrifying.”

Roadside’s upcoming releases include the Meghan Markle-produced doc “Cookie Queens” and horror film “Buddy,” featuring Cristin Milioti and Keegan-Michael Key. Vertical has “The Weight” starring Ethan Hawke and Russell Crowe, as well as “The Magic Faraway Tree” led by Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy.
