Welcome to 2004

Hey all

A quick update but a good one.

Samantha sent me the following very important info:

LIFETIME’S NEW YEAR’S
DAY CELEBRATION
Thursday, January 1
at 1 pm et/pt

Sit back, put your feet up, and relax on the first day of 2004 with a special treat from Lifetime ? a movie marathon hosted by Oscar® winner Nicole Kidman and her “Cold Mountain” co-stars Renée Zellweger and Natalie Portman.
This trio of leading ladies will talk about their new movie, “Cold Mountain.” It’s the epic tale of a wounded Confederate soldier (Jude Law) who embarks on a perilous journey home to reunite with the woman he left behind. Meanwhile, the love of his life (Nicole Kidman) must face myriad threats to protect her father’s farm with the help of a resilient drifter (Renée Zellweger). This American odyssey paints a vivid picture of love, friendship and heroism amid the bloodshed and chaos. It’s got Oscar written all over it!

Hopefully some of you will be sober and awake

Jeff Well’s new column looks at the upcoming Sundance festival and in it Garden State gets a couple good mentions…

Zach Braff’s GARDEN STATE, an allegedly Woody Allen-esque romantic comedy with a soupcon of deep feelings about human frailty (according to Sundance honcho Geoffrey Gilmore) looks like a stand-out. (Wait a minute…it’s about another parent’s funeral. Cameron, are you reading this?)

Various distributors are chasing Zac Braff’s GARDEN STATE. The rumor is that an early acquisition interest on the part of Focus Features either “fell out or never was,” according to a producer’s rep.
