The Big Actor Poll

By July 18, 2011Site-news

Okay, thanks for those of you who left suggestions. I decided to ease up on the restrictions and have included Levitt and Franco amongst the 18 guys who would be most desired to star opposite Natalie. I tried to cover a good range of younger and older (but not Clint Eastwood old) actors.

The next on screen love interest poll

    My top 5…

  • omgzrachel says:

    Gosling ftw.

  • 3rd says:

Her next ideal on screen love interest *should* be a female.

  • NPortmanFan says:

There is no possible way that I can choose lol. Soo many great choices.

  • dazza says:

Yeah, I had a tough time as well. I really wanted to go with Eisenberg as I love the guy’s work and think they’d make a super cute couple, but Gosling is probably my fav actor.

  • Carlotto says:

Alexander SkarsgΓ₯rd because I’m totally wet for him

  • sharhem says:

Andrew Garfield & James Franco ♥

  • dazza says:

I’m glad someone voted for Alex, when I checked earlier he was the only guy who hadn’t gotten a vote yet.

  • narkel says:

I voted for Alexander Skarsgard, although he’s so tall that maybe they will need some special effects to cover that issue.

  • omgzrachel says:

ASkars is my second choice, but yeah, he would totally dwarf her.

  • jesslv74 says:

It’s hard to choose b/c it depends on the type of movie…comedy, drama, etc. I don’t really like any of choices, but then I didn’t submit something so I guess I can’t complain. πŸ™‚

  • WanderinRoy says:

“3rd-Her next ideal on screen love interest *should* be a female.”

Sounds good to me. I will start the bidding off with Rachel McAdams or Zooey Deschanel. I think this should be the next poll.

  • shoe89 says:

    top 5
    Chris Pine
    Shia Labeouf
    Ryan Gosling
    Leo Dicaprio
    Johnny Depp

  • justanotherfan says:

    Gosling all the way πŸ™‚

Yeah i agree with the next poll idea, her next film should have a female relationship πŸ™‚

  • dazza says:

You guys really want the next poll to be about a romantic female relationship instead of just another female to star alongside? I can see why the guys would prefer the former…

  • jesslv74 says:

    Female star alongside.

  • klaas patje says:

    My top 5

    1 leonardo Dicaprio
    2 johnny depp
    3 james Franco
    4 joseph Gordon Levitt
    5 james McAvoy

  • 3rd says:

dazza- seriously?! Is it such a strange idea that people (straight, gay, female, male, or otherwise) might want to see Natalie in a non-hetero role with a female love interest?!

I’d love to see Natalie play a transgendered person, or *anything* other than another straight woman in another straight movie with another straight male love interest. And why should my gender help you to understand (or not as this case may be) why I make my choices?!

  • jen.evar says:

I’m torn between Michael Fassbender and Alexander Skarsgard. I wound up voting Fassbender because I feel like Natalie is way too short to star opposite Skarsgard. He pretty much towers over Anna Paquin in True Blood and it’s distracting as hell.

  • dazza says:

3rd – I can see why someone would be more interested in that, but I’d be surprised if MORE people would want the poll to focus on that than just a female to star opposite. Especially considering Natalie has just played a role in which what got to see that side.

Jess – Really? There are 18 of the leading actors in the poll and you don’t like ANY of them? How is that even possible?

  • 3rd says:

dazza – true, she has recently played a character with a female love interest. So what?! One role compared to how many other films where she has played a straight woman? Thor, No Strings Attached, The Other Woman… And these are just from recent times. She has played a straight woman in just about every other film she’s ever been involved with.

  • dazza says:

3rd – I think I’m just going to let you be angry and indignant since you seem to really be enjoying it. What I will do, which is the most fair idea, is to do a quick pre poll asking people if they would like the female version of this poll to be of the love interest variety or not. How’s that sound?

  • jesslv74 says:

Yeah, I like some of them but I don’t have a strong feeling for any of them as lead I for Natalie I guess. Having said that, I can’t think of anyone off the top of my head who wasn’t on the list. I really like Matt Damon but I totally forgot about submitting a name and doubt he would have gotten many votes if he was put on the iist. I was able to make a decision though.

  • 3rd says:

dazza – I’m not angry. In honesty I’m disappointed; I didn’t think you would be so closed-minded. I never suggested another poll. Someone else did. My argument is that this poll is an unfair and insulting one. To have only male actor options assumes that the people who frequent this site only want to see her with male love interests.

Create whatever polls you want to, and I will comment as is my right to do so (seeing as you’ve allowed comments to be made).

  • narkel says:

To be honest, I prefer to have a talk about what genre or history we would like to see Natalie doing rather than if she should play a straight/gay character. I know a lot of people was talking about Black Swan just because of the kiss scene with Mila but there was so much more interesting stuff than that. I don’t want to sound disrespectful but I don’t care if she does a gay/straight character, in fact, I would like to see Natalie doing a movie without having any romantic interest, kinda like Million Dollar Baby.

  • Brian says:

If you’re gonna do a poll about that topic, you could make it more interesting by asking if people would want to see Nat in a lesbian role. (answers ranging from being thrilled at the prospect, neutral about it, or hate the thought of Nat doing that) Then you could make your own judgment based on those results that if enough people would be intrigued at that type of role for Nat, you could go ahead with the female love interest actress poll.

Myself, I’d be neutral about that role for Nat. If the script seems great, fine, but if it were just some mediocre looking movie that’s supposed to have some effect of “OMG Nat’s a lesbian, wow!” then I’d say meh whatever.

As for actors, I voted for Leo (too bad they thought she looked way too young for Romeo & Juliet with him back in the day) and JGL would be my 2nd choice.

  • quick_wit says:

totally voted for Ryan Gosling, i think they’ll be a great in a dramedy

  • dazza says:

Jess – Matt Damon should be on there. Can’t believe I forgot him.

3rd – Close minded? It’s the opposite if anything. My concerns are about what others, particularly female fans, might feel if the first time we do a poll about which actresses they’d like to see Natalie act with, it has to involve girl on girl action. I’m OPEN to Natalie being with an old or young guy, single, with another woman…it really doesn’t matter to me as long as the film and the role are good. You on the other hand are positively railing against straight relationships and it’s colouring your opinion.

The reason I added the relationship angle to this male poll was because it’s a lot more likely that her co-star would be a love interest. The reason I wasn’t really considering it for the female actresses, aside from what I mentioned above, is because it’s more likely that a female co-star would be a family member or a friend or a co-worker than a partner.

I suppose I could just do two polls and try to make the difference between the two clear. Or Brian’s suggestion.

And all comments are welcome, even if they include fist shaking that leaves me bewildered.

  • 3rd says:

dazza – how is it open minded to have a poll that only has male options? Would it not be open minded to include female and male actor options in the same poll?

As far as “girl on girl action”, and your concern of how female fans might feel- I never said anything about her next film having to involve dirty lesbian sex scenes (or anything of that nature), I just said that her love interest (which is what this poll is about) should be female. Is guy on girl action less of a concern to new female fans to the site? Why not let people make up their own minds even?!

Please note: no fists were shaken during the writing of this post πŸ™‚

  • klaas patje says:

Who cares about Damon( i did).
    Where is Kevin James!

I think you should do a woman co-star first, but a lesbian poll would be fun.

I like this kind of poll, you could do a poll about directors, genres, actors she already worked with.

  • dazza says:

Is it not open minded to consider the feelings of the visitors to the site and to personally not mind what kind of relationships Natalie depicts on screen?

There’s a very simple reason why there are no actresses in this poll – IT’S ABOUT MALE ACTORS. That was the main function, the relationship angle was a late addition to simple narrow things down a bit (how do you vote when you’re thinking…is the dude playing her brother…lover…dad…nemesis?).

The actress poll, which is coming next, I hadn’t given that much thought about, but didn’t really think to carry over the romantic angle because from a female POV it seemed it would make it TOO limiting, and potentially upset some people.

But the solution is to just do two separate polls for the actresses. Then nobody can be angry right…RIGHT?!?!

  • 3rd says:

dazza – your visitors aren’t just straight people. I’m sure you will have many LGBTIQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer) Natalie fans who come here often and want to voice their opinions just as much as anyone else. Why not consider *their* feelings as well? When you limit the *kind* of relationship in a poll by only having male options, you are insinuating that she *should* be in a straight role next.

Your poll doesn’t specify that it is ABOUT MALE ACTORS. It says (or said) her next ideal on screen love interest.

My argument is that you shouldn’t HAVE to have seperate polls for the actors and actresses. Why not just include everyone in ONE poll?! Why make it a big deal?!

  • dazza says:

I consider everyone’s feelings, I really do. I’m responding to you with a bit of vigour not because of your perfectly reasonable point “hey, how about a poll catering for those of us who would like to see Natalie with a woman in her next film”, but because of the hostile way you’re addressing it.

I’m a staunch supporter of same sex relationships, as you’d see when I end up having to argue with close minded commenters every time we do a post that touches on Natalie’s support for those particular freedoms.

The simple fact is this – the idea was always to ask which guys would like you like to see Nat work with next and then another poll about which women would you like to see her work with. In retrospect, I guess I should have made that clearer or simply left out the romantic interest aspect altogether.

If you wanted a joint sexes love interest poll, well, I did ask for help with the poll on the site and on twitter. That was done specifically so the poll wasn’t all about my choices, but reflected what Natalie’s fans wanted from the poll. Nobody made the suggestion or asked why females aren’t being included.

And now it seems even a separate female love interest poll, a poll that I’m basically doing JUST FOR YOU, isn’t good enough. Oh, and I’m the one making a big deal? Aye caramba!

  • 3rd says:

dazza – I appreciate you responding to my posts. It’s a very difficult thing; expressing an opinion in favour of LGBTIQ matters, particularly in writing. That same ‘tone argument’ that you have expressed numerous times, where I am apparently either shaking my fist, or addressing with hostility, always seems to rear its ugly head.

I totally acknowledge and respect what you have written in the past in regards to same-sex relationships etc. I think that’s why I was so shocked by some of the comments you made in response to my suggestion of a female love interest.

It’s funny, I visit this site once a day (at least) and I’m on twitter also. I’m sorry I didn’t notice anything related to creating a poll. Had I known, I would have said something.

Again, I have not and haven’t ever asked for another love interest poll. All I have said is that it is unfair to have a poll with only male options when it pertains to on-screen romantic involvement.

  • dazza says:

3rd – It’s just that you jumped to such a heightened offended position in such a short amount of time and seem(ed) so indignant about Natalie being in a straight relationship on screen, that I was quite taken aback.

I was just trying to consider what visitors to the site would want and clearly I was either too thoughtful or not thoughtful enough because here we are.

Complaining about the current poll is useless. I can’t do anything about that. But I can make the next poll focus on that aspect, if you want it represented. Surely that’s the most important thing, unless you specifically wanted woman to go up against the male choices?

How about we do a female love interest poll and then we do another poll (hey, it’s not like there’s any REAL news!) that takes the top 3 from the male and female polls and puts them all together?

  • 3rd says:

dazza – I think your female love interest poll and then the top 3 from both polls are great ideas. And thank you, for being patient and willing to discuss this matter with me. I think very highly of you and have for a long time.

  • dazza says:

Are you coming onto me? Sorry, couldn’t resist πŸ˜€

I do enjoy the odd heated discussion but I’m glad we got our happy ending. Think the battle of the sexes poll (don’t worry, I won’t call it that) will be a lot of fun.
