Talking Malick

News is thin on the ground as we all wait for Natalie to get in front of the camera again. We’re probably at least a couple months away from that, but a writer at The Heights is already looking forward to Natalie’s collaborations (Lawless and Knights of Cup) with director Terrence Malick.

At the same time, a feeling crept over me by May that Portman’s rediscovered dramatic cred might be wasted. My fears could be boiled down to two words: Your Highness. Would the spotlight turn Natalie Portman into little more than a run-of-the-mill commercial star, or would she eventually use her Black Swan success as a springboard toward more critically acclaimed roles? As the second half of 2011 passed without many signs of Natalie, I sincerely hoped for the latter. Fortunately, Portman has taken a step back into the center of movie news this week, signing on to not one, but two, new movies. And both are written and directed by Terence Malick. Natalie Portman, respected full-time actress, is back!
