My plea for some fanart seems to have been effective, but I’ll get to that later. Things are still relatively quiet but let’s see how much Nat I can squeeze from this rock.

Let’s start today with another Free Zone review. Sadly, it’s another that leans towards the negative. Thanks to JC.

After opening with an uninterrupted 10-minute shot of Natalie Portman weeping, the latest by Israeli maverick Amos Gitai gives viewers plenty to cry about. Unfortunately, those may be tears of frustration. Named for the region where people from all over the Middle East come to sell cars, Free Zone devolves into a tiring mess of harangues and stereotypes as Portman, playing a young Jewish American with love trouble, hits the road with an Israeli driver (Hanna Laslo) and a Palestinian car dealer (Hiam Abbass). As he tries to convey the many difficulties Israelis and Palestinians have communicating with each other, Gitai exhibits a remarkable lack of subtlety. Free Zone is still a cut above the disappointing films the director has made since Kadosh and Kippur, but that’s not saying much.

And it seems that Nat could be heading over to Toronto for the screening. Good luck Canadian Nat fans.

I really hope that a proper photo shoot is done with her still in mohawk mode. I would hate for this unique look to only get the crappy paparazzi pic treatment.
