Watch The Music Video

By April 14, 2012Nat-news

The Natalie version of the music video is here and…well it’s sweet and she looks pretty. It’s also a little sad, which is nice. But like her first foray into Paul McCartney music video territory, I’m not exactly doing cartwheels. How about you guys?

I like it dazza! Natalie and Johnny Depp are really, really top notch in this video. Especially the non-verbal communication between the two – “incredibly emotional!”

  • NPortmanFan says:

She looks gorgeous. I think that the video is sweet, but I’m not at all a fan of the song.

  • cherryvanilla says:

I love it so much! It’s really emotional and simple. It helps that the song is great too. It’s a thousand times better than Dance Tonight, musically and video wise. Natalie looks stunning and she really projects the love theme of the song, more so than Johnny, who seems a bit lost.

  • Sascha says:

I love it. Beautiful song and an even more beautiful Natalie.

  • CรฉdPortman says:

    she is so beautiful

  • whenpukedries says:

It was really impressive all in one shot with the sign language, very fluid, but as I attempted to do a cartwheel, I fell on my fat ass.

  • amo says:

What the hell dazza? Isn’t that ASL? You should totes put a note on it so that deaf fans know it’s the *one video on this whole not-very-deaf-friendly site* they can enjoy… Also, it’s exciting to see Natalie performing in ASL in general, especially as she’s never done it before in her work ๐Ÿ™‚

  • teatray says:

i like the version where they appear together best ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Dazza says:

Bit condescending, Amo. Like suggesting a homeless person’s favourite show has to be Cribs ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • REBEL 2660 says:

Nice Video.Natalie beautiful as always, surprised that she knew sign language. In all I liked the music video.

  • amo says:

I love you Dazza and I know the right thing to do would be to discreetly ignore your daft comment, but srsly: let it be noted I don’t appreciate it. (What? I never said I was classy.)

  • Joe Schmo says:

The solo Natalie clip shows she is a consummate professional.

The solo Johnny Depp clip is out of sync, particularly noticeable during the instrumental.

    luv,
Joe “Still got those swan arms” Schmo.

  • thevoid99 says:

I like it. It’s simple and to the point. Plus, Natalie doing sign language and looking understatedly beautiful just adds to the emotion of the song. I still much prefer “Dance Tonight” which was a lot more fun and upbeat.

  • jesslv74 says:

I like too. See the comments above above for why. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • jesslv74 says:

Ah…just saw the Johnny Depp one. I love the editing that was done with Natalie but he just did NOT work. I don’t think the video itself is bad, so it must be him.

  • Dazza says:

Well Amo, I had hoped your comment was tongue in cheek and I gave you the benefit of the doubt. Since it clearly wasn’t, and your ridiculous comment about the site not being deaf friendly (seriously, wtf) was a legitimate grievance, I retract the wink.

Buried deep in your comment there was actually a nice point, which you could have expressed without sticking the elbow in. If we’re noting things then note this: I respect the fact that you speak your mind and I don’t take your complaints to heart, but you can be unnecessarily abrasive for no good reason and when you do that the chance of your goal being reached decreases.

  • whenpukedries says:

    hly sht, 16 comments! 17! 17!

  • a Bit in love says:

    very impressive

  • amo says:

Dazza: When I screen out your derailing what we’re left with is you telling me that you think my “complaint” (it was actually a simple suggestion) is legitimate and nice but you don’t take it to heart.

Anyone following this convo needs to understand that.

  • Iktriad says:

Honestly, can anybody actully listen what McCartney is singing about? I can’t take my eyes off Nat here. She is so flawless.

  • Rick49 says:

I think the whole thing works beautifully. Paul’s song has wonderful but sad melody, with happy lyrics and the juxtaposition of the two are mirrored by the beauty, but solemn Natalie (and Johnny as well). While it may not evoke cartwheels, it is wonderful to see how Natalie and the song enhance each other’s beauty.

  • NPortmanFan says:

I changed my mind. After a few viewings, I actually think that the video is very emotional…I kind of love it. And the song has grown on me as well lol. I think I like the Natalie + Johnny video the best. Though I don’t like Johnny’s solo video.

  • a Bit in love says:

It appeals to most inner feelings, thoroughly hidden as they are delicate and vulnerable. A faithfully dedicated revelation of love.

  • whenpukedries says:

ok well while we’re at it maybe we could set a comments record… one thing I noticed was how she was lit from the side making her features asymetrical a bit, which everyone under the sun would avoid, except Natalie who’s like “bring it bitches!” it makes her look more romantic. you can compare to the album of the week dior photos where she looks sexy. what a chameleon! I, like NPortmanFan, have changed my mind and am blown away. I glanced at the combo vid, and I appreciate the floating camera zoom, but I deplore “ugly” Johnny Depp. Please put on your tux and comb your hair so I can love you again. Never liked his movies but he gives a great interview, he’s so funny.

  • Dazza says:

Amo – Your “simple suggestion” was buried underneath a snide tone and an attack so silly I assumed you and the whole comment were joking. Hence my response.

You expressed exception to that response and so I’m trying to point out how it came to this. But you don’t seem to care about that and only care about the point, so let me address that.

I was half in jest but I do also think that putting a note on this update telling any deaf fans out there that this is FINALLY something they can enjoy, well I personally would feel uncomfortable with that. I don’t believe all deaf people would necessarily be overjoyed with the video and like it more than all other Natalie videos, just because she is using sign language. And adding the note, especially after the fact, would make me feel uncomfortable like I was talking down to those fans and making a broad generalization.

I don’t expect you or anyone else to feel that way, but that was my personal feeling when you brought it up. Throw in the digs at me and the site, and I was definitely not inclined to follow out this particular request.

  • Dazza says:

Natalie looks gorgeous and does a good job infusing genuine emotion. So it sorta works, even if it is very schmaltzy on the face of it. But the Depp version is honestly embarrassing.

  • whenpukedries says:

Nay chief scather, not embarassing. The whole thing is fucking sweet! Johnny does make me feel a little uncomfortable kinda like that tingling in your groin when you go downhill in your car too quickly, and I do think he would have been a better fit all cleaned up in a tux, you know more manly, but the genuine emotion that he portrayed was that of being uncomfortable with such a thing as professing love to a valentine. I’m farklempt. Talk amongst yourselves, np.com is deaf-friendly but neither deaf nor friendly. There do we feel better?

  • amo says:

Pointing out that I don’t respond to your derailing is … derailing.

btw I didn’t suggest your note tell fans that the vid is “FINALLY something they can enjoy”…

…although that would have been a cool, self-deprecating way to point out that you are aware that the site doesn’t implement any deaf accessibility measures.

  • Dazza says:

I know that wasn’t what you wanted for the note (still don’t really see the point of any note as surely any fan, be they deaf or not, is going to check out a new video regardless), rather it was part of the weird “eff you” tone.

The site is 99% text and images though. It could hardly be more deaf friendly. Now if I did updates via mp3 and described photos like a game of charades, then fair enough.

  • Adonis says:

Whether one likes this video or not, (is clear) that has every right to say that.
One thing is certain in any case: This fantastic video with Natalie has gone around the world, and reap only positive opinions – how can it be otherwise? Because for me it’s not just a video, but a manifestation of strong emotions that come from deep inside her.
Bravo to Natalie for this really great video!

  • amo says:

Dazza: Your most recent post is 100% derailing.

  • whenpukedries says:

We have a family friend who is deaf and I learned from him that the majority of deaf people are at a junior high school reading and writing level.

  • Dazza says:

Amo – Can we actually have a discussion or are you going to keep, ironically, disrupting the discussion by saying the word “derailing” over and over again? If there is a point of yours that you think I have not responded to, I’d happily do so if you point it out.

And yes, this comment is derailing because everything is derailing.

  • Kornemuse says:

Nat version is georgeous but I prefer one with NP & JD together ^^

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4dzzv81X9w&feature=share

  • amo says:

Dazza, it’s not ironic. It’s intentional and it’s valid.

  • jesslv74 says:

I’ll just throw in one silly thing…it was really cool to get a good look at her ring in motion. And I love the photos you put up, esp that one that’s showing in the page right now. See it? That one over there <-- Haha yeah, I know they change, I was just being silly to lighten the mood. It's the one where she's looking down. The way her hair falls is gorgeous, and it's just a peaceful picture.

  • Dazza says:

Okay, so you’re saying it’s you who is “derailing” the discussion and it’s because you’re trying to make a point. Is that right?

If so then how about simply explaining that point so I can be enlightened. If not then I am done with this and will probably avoid all further discussions with you on any subject deeper than just the surface level.

I’ll happily debate/argue/converse with someone on a topic, but if I feel it’s pointless and the other person isn’t willing to do the same, be it because they are unwilling to ever concede an inch or, as I’m feeling right now, they are playing games…then it’s really a waste of time.

  • Dazza says:

Right now I’ve got the picture that looks vaguely sexual ๐Ÿ˜€

  • amo says:

For anyone who doesn’t know – asking someone to enlighten you is derailing.

  • Dazza says:

You’re either conducting some kind of performance art piece, enacting some sort of meme or simply trolling at this point. In any case, I’m done.

  • Aaron says:

    Love Her So Much

  • jesslv74 says:

Haha Dazza, which one looks vaguely sexual to you?

  • omgzrachel says:

tbh, I thought she was throwing up a gang sign at first glance.

  • jesslv74 says:

Hahaha Rachel I can SO see that! I didn’t until you pointed it out. You have me cracking up over here. Oh, how the little things amuse me.

  • Dazza says:

I think it was the sign for “arrive” that looks like something I’d flash a girl to entice her into my bedroom.

  • amo says:

    More derailing.
For anyone reading this, trolling is when you try to start a fight, which is what dazza’s tried to do.
Trying to shut down a troll, which is what I’ve been doing, is not trolling.

  • amo says:

Which is to say there are differences between Derailing and derailing.

  • Adonis says:

amo: What is the matter with you? Come back down!

  • a Bit in love says:

an interesting approach would be to watch the whole video set to mute. tried this yesterday – it’s fascinating.
