I’ve been thinking about yesterday’s big news that Natalie will shoot two Terrence Malick films back to back, and I thought I’d share some of the more pertinent points.
– There is no script yet. Natalie, like all the actors, are signing on for one reason only – the chance to work with Terrence Malick.
– Natalie is known to prepare very hard for her roles and is very disciplined and organized. So it’s going to be interesting to see how she deals with Malick, who is anything but structured or conventional in his filming style. There will eventually be a script but he won’t stick to it. He will rewrite and change anything and everything as the mood takes him.

I hope everyone had a happy new year! The last half of the year had been so deathly quiet that I almost considered not doing a review. What was I going to recap? And then I remembered that six months ago I was almost suffering from Natalie Portman overload. Twenty-eleven was really the Year of Natalie, with five new movie releases (six if you count Black Swan‘s wide/international release) and her massive winning streak during awards season. Here’s all you missed if you were living under a rock in 2011.
I finally caught up with Colombiana, the Luc Besson producer Zoe Saldana starring action film. A film that is effectively inspired by the idea of what a sequel to The Professional might be like, if they were legally able to move forward with one.
I was always quite worried about the idea of a sequel as it would be so hard to capture that magic again, particularly since Besson seems to make bog standard action films these days, and while The Professional had a couple great action set pieces, it was so much more than that.
