Our Bubble Is Small

By July 8, 2011Site-news

But our will is strong!

Thanks to the 60 odd people who have registered and joined (this step is important. you must click and then approve joining) our bubble. Apparently we’re now ranked 6th, but we’re a little over 300 people away from the leading bubble. So we really need a big push in the next couple days, otherwise we’re dead in the water.

Again, it will take barely a minute of your time and you can enjoy the site or completely forget it even exists. If we win the security of the site will be assured forever more.

Have you posted this info on the Facebook site as well? Haven’t been on there for a few days. Sorry if you already mentioned that!

I only registered because I saw on the comments of the other news that you could win 10k. Maybe you should put it in the news, to motivate the readers.

It is on FB and twitter but people are pretty lazy. I understand, I’d be the same way. It’s funny, I was talking to a friend about it today, and I said that if this had happened around the time of the hack, where everyone was so supportive about the site, then I’d say we’d have a great shot. But it’s funny how quickly that feeling can cool down. For example, we had around a dozen people (these are rough guesses) sign up for $5 monthly donations. One month later it was like down to 7. A month later down to 4. A month later down to 2 and it’s been just those same two people (who know who they are, and much love from me).

So back to my conversation with my friend. He made a crazy suggestion, which I won’t even consider doing but think was quite smart and would work. He suggested we take down the site and put up a link to the bubble saying that the site will be back IF it wins.

And you know what, that kind of cage rattle would probably work, which is a bit sad really.

But again, thanks to all those who have signed up. It really is a pretty cool site and even after the contest I may keep it up and start to update it like I do the facebook and twitter pages.

You should explain how the site is run and why donations would help. Do you need money to pay the hosting? Aren’t the ads enough? Where do you currently find the money? I didn’t even know monthly donations were possible.
For example I would sign up immediately to a suscriber status which gets me rid of ads while supporting the site (it is the only site for which I turn AdBlock off).

  • Carlotto says:

You only speaks about donations when a comic is out, saying donations will help the comic continues; but I want to support the site, not just the comic.

I’m going to suggest that you keep posting it on both facebook and twitter.I don’t know about everyone else, but my main source of information is this website, and not facebook-as it is rarely seen on my newsfeed. If it’s constantly updated then maybe more people will start joining. And letting them know about the 10k is a good idea too! 🙂

No, I think I do always (well maybe not always but a lot of the time) mention that donations not only help keep us doing the comics but are also a way to support the site and basically give back for the effort that is put in.

As always, I’d say that if you aren’t making much money, rather hold onto it and just help the site by facebook likes and retweeting and clicking on ads that interest you. Those things are free and note exactly time consuming.

I’ve almost entirely stopped doing donation posts because the ads are covering costs, although largely thanks to earlier in the year when things were jumping, but also because I’m trying to really make some personal strides outside of the site, which if they come off, will reduce a lot of the financial stress and strain.

Obviously, if this bubble thing came off, that would do that on it’s own.

Fan – You lost me a bit. If what is constantly updated? The site? Facebook?

  • Carlotto says:

Cool, I’m happy to hear the costs are covered; I know a lot of non pro (and even pro) sites have trouble getting enough income unless they’re really big.

    Ooh, ranked 5 now!

  • dazza says:

If we had started when the competition opened I think we’d be able to do it, but the Glee bubble is first now and those mofos aren’t going to let up 😀

  • NPortmanFan says:

I’ll register when I get home from work 🙂

  • jesslv74 says:

Oh god yeah the Gleeks are probably going to win and would have no matter when we started.

  • jesslv74 says:

Haha I called them Gleeks as an insult before I looked at the name of their bubble. Obviously I don’t keep up with Glee.

  • omgzrachel says:

    Ugh, Glee is the worst.

  • dazza says:

We’re even further behind. I concede defeat.
